DANBURY, Conn. – ECAC Pitcher of the Year Dan Altavilla (Greenock, Pa.) of Mercyhurst University has been named a 2013-14 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Regional Scholar-Athlete. Altavilla is one of eight men and eight women to be honored by the CCA, with a national winner to be announced in September.
This award, sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, provides the opportunity for Division II to recognize the athletic and academic achievements of its student-athletes.
Altavilla, a Sports Medicine/Pre-Physical Therapy major, finished the 2013-14 year with a 3.7 cumulative grade point average. In addition to the ECAC Pitcher of the Year honors, Altavilla was also named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team and was named ABCA/Rawlings National Pitcher of the Year. In June, Altavilla was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft and is currently pitching for the Everett AquaSox in the Northwest League.
