Offensive Player of the Week

Kay Banjo - UMBC, Senior, Forward, Upper Marlboro, Md.

Banjo tallied six points in two games over the weekend, earning MVP honors at UMBC's Doubletree BWI Classic. The senior striker scored twice in UMBC's 4-0 win over LIU Brooklyn Friday and then assisted on both Retriever scores in a 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart Sunday.

 

Co-Defensive Players of the Week

Joshua Yaro - Georgetown, Sophomore, Defender, Santa Barbara, Calif.

Yaro was a vital piece to Georgetown staying unbeaten over the weekend and was named to the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic All-Tournament team for his efforts.  The sophomore made a big stop on the goal line in a 1-1 tie to Indiana and came up with some blocks late in a 0-0 draw to top ranked Notre Dame.

Matt Turner – Fairfield, Junior, Goalie, Park Ridge, N.J.

Turner posted a shutout in his first career start for Fairfield, leading the Stags to a 1-0 win over Army. The junior made seven saves to notch his first career shutout, facing 14 shots in his 90 minutes of work.

Co-Rookies of the Week

Frantzdy Pierrot - Northeastern, Freshman, Defender, Melrose, Mass.

Pierrot scored the game-winning goal in Northeastern’s season opening 1-0 win over New Hampshire last Friday afternoon. The rookie defender came up from the backline to strike a header past the Wildcats keeper in the 39th minute to break a scoreless tie.

Ben Whitcomb - Fairfield, Sophomore, Defender, Liverpool, England

Whitcomb also scored the game-winning goal in his debut, helping Fairfield to a season opening 1-0 win over Army.  While also shutting out the Black Knights defensively, Whitcomb knocked in the game-winner in the 29th minute.

Offensive Player of the Week

Elton Teixeira - UMass Boston, Junior, Forward, Boston, Mass.

Teixeira didn’t take long to make his mark at UMass, recording four goals and two assists last week. In Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Rensselaer, he scored the lone Beacon goal in the 25th minute. The following day with UMass Boston trailing 3-1 with eight minutes to play, Teixeira buried a hat trick of goals in less than two minutes to push the Beacons to a 4-3 comeback win over Thomas College.

Defensive Player of the Week

Kevin Strobel - Western New England, Sophomore, Goalie, Rockland, Mass.

Strobel racked up back-to-back clean sheets to spark the Golden Bears to a pair of victories in the season’s opening weekend.  Strobel registered three saves in a 1-0 victory over Westfield State and then followed with seven more saves in a 3-0 triumph over Rhode Island College. 

Rookie of the Week

Ryan Banker -  Nichols, Sophomore, Forward, Ashaway, RI

Banker notched the game-winning goal in extra time to sink New England College 3-2 and lift Nichols to a season opening victory. Banker struck a little more than three minutes into overtime. He also assisted on the game’s first goal, setting up Isaac Alvarenga for the tally.

Offensive Player of the Week

Leo Herrmann - Franciscan University, Freshman, Forward, Steubenville, Ohio

Herrmann knocked in four goals in the Barons' opening 1-0-1 weekend. Herrmann had the game-winning goal (his third of the game) in extra time against Thiel, the Barons' first win of the season. Herrmann scored all three of his goals after halftime. Herrmann also scored an unassisted goal in a 2-2 tie to Westminster (Pa.).

Defensive Player of the Week

Michael Reyes - Drew, Senior, Goalie, Delran, N.J.

In over 200 minutes of action, Reyes did not let up a single goal during the Rangers' Fall Festival championship. In securing shutouts against SUNY Geneseo and Kean, Reyes made nine saves and led Drew to a 1-0-1 weekend. Reyes was named the Fall Fest Defensive MVP after Drew won its own season opening tournament for the first time since 2011.

Offensive Co-Players of the Week

Abiodun Lawal - Centenary College, Junior, Forward, Irvington, N.J.

Lawal scored a goal in each of Centenary’s first two games as the Cyclones began the year 1-0-1. Lawal knocked in his first goal of the season against Rochester Institute of Technology in the 55th minute of a 2-2 draw. Lawal would then score off a feed from Quinn Khouri in the 24th minute of a 2-1 win over Nazareth.

Matthew Mbamelu -  CCNY, Senior, Forward, Anambra, Nigeria

Mbamelu scored two goals and dished out an assist as the Beavers opened their 2014 campaign with a 5-4 loss at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Down one in the 76th minute and down a man, Mbamelu took a through ball from midfield and tied the game up at four with his second goal of the game. The senior forward scored his first goal just 41 seconds into the contest.

Defensive Player of the Week

Tyler Krychkowski - New Jersey City University, Junior, Goalie, North Arlington, N.J.

Krychkowski earns ECAC honors after posting a 0.41 goals against average (GAA) in a pair of double-overtime draws at the College of Staten Island Fall Classic. In the Gothic Knights’ season opener, Krychkowski collected three saves in 110 minutes of action during a scoreless draw with Trine. One day later, he notched 13 saves in 110 minutes while surrendering just a penalty kick late in the game of a 1-1 draw with USMMA-Kings Point.

Division III Upstate

Offensive Player of the Week

Shane Ruffing - Utica, Senior, Forward, Rochester, N.Y.

Ruffing opened the season with five goals over the course of two games to pace Utica to a 2-0 opening weekend. Ruffing provided all the scoring for the Pioneers in their season opening 3-0 win over The Sage Colleges Friday night. He then added two more goals in a 4-0 victory over Purchase on Saturday.

Co-Defensive Players of the Week

Michael King -  Clarkson, Sophomore, Goalie, Verona, N.J.

King made 12 stops and allowed just a single goal in two victories over the weekend He made a single save in a 2-0 win over Moravian and then made 11 stops in a 2-1 victory over Cortland State.

Nick Davies - SUNY Potsdam, Sophomore, Goalie, Webster, N.Y.

Nick Davies posted a 1-0-1 mark between the pipes for the Bears at the Cardinal Classic over the weekend. He had a .917 save percentage and a 0.45 goals-against-average, while also shutting out Fitchburg State 2-0 on Saturday.
